As we enter a new chapter of The Wine Store, I think it is important to reflect. For those that do not know me, my name is Joe Cricchio. I was born and raised in the small town of Marlboro, located in the Hudson Valley, New York. Post graduating from college, I worked for a short time in the Finance field before moving to the big city to work in the restaurant industry. Over the course of 4 years, I worked I had the opportunity to work in just about every type of restaurant from Michelin Star to Cocktail Bars.
Somewhere along my journey, I caught the "wine bug." I wish I could say that it was from a singular, spectacular bottle of wine, like Chave Hermitage, but not every story of is the perfect wine fairly tale. I can actually specifically remember being a floor manager at A Voce for the 2010 Domaine de la Romanée Conti tasting. If I remember correctly it was the first time ever that the event was held at an Italian Restaurant in New York City. The glasses were being prepped with Chardonnay the day before, I thought to myself this is the most ridiculous preparation for a wine tasting imaginable. The tasting was by far one of my most vivid memories of the last 10 years. My mind didn't quite connect to my sense of smell or taste as well as it does today, but I knew this was a once in a life time experience. I reflect back on how special that day was, but also how over my head I was. I was too green to understand the magnitude of what was happening around me. It was from that moment that my wine journey began.
In the fall of 2014 I purchased The Wine Store of Marlborough. There was less than $20k of inventory and the business was barely hanging on. I knew it would be a long road. I tasted, took notes, read, re-read, examined maps, and tasted some more. This has been my life every day for the last 6 years, I have taught myself a lot about wine and spirits, but some days I still feel like a beginner.
As I launch my most detailed website, I am both nervous and excited to share the store's selections with a broader clientele! I hope that you enjoy my solo effort that has gone into this site and find a bottle that you'll enjoy with friends or family!
