It's a small, 5,5Ha, nature-friendly domaine. With almost all the vineyards and land (total 8ha) around our domain we are creating a great ecosystem here. To increase biodiversity in our vineyards we planted over 100 fruit \u0026amp; nut trees in 2019. \u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\n\u003cb\u003eWe want to work with nature, not against. To stay in this mindset, in the vineyard we work with a homeopathic touch, where we collect plants and herbs around the estate to make plant based tea infusions that will help the vines to become stronger and healthier. We also work by the moon, this results in our choices; when to bottle\/press how long we will do the maceration and so on. On a meadow at the end of our vineyards we have our sheep (who are a part of our team and going to help us eat the herbs in the vineyard during wintertime and give the soil food in return). \u003c\/b\u003e\u003cb\u003eFrom the 8Ha in total we have 5,5Ha of vineyards (Gamay noir á jus blanc \u0026amp; Chardonnay) based in Lantignié (North of Beaujolais). The 5,5Ha includes: 3,5Ha of productive vineyard and 1.7Ha of abandoned vineyard. We felt we should give this wild vineyard a go to save those vines, it didn't feel right to take them out just because they are free souls. For 10 years, she cut hair in Melbourne, and one of her clients was the wife of Aussie wine critic Jeremy Oliver, which opened the door for her to go to work in Burgundy (she did vintage there in 1998). When she got back she met wine merchant Philip Rich and got a job at his Prince Wine Store. She started doing vintages at various wineries in Australia, New Zealand and Burgundy. Eventually she decided to move to Burgundy, which she did in 2004, and where she now works as a winemaker at Domaine Newman, as well as running her own micro-negociant operation (since 2011, she shares a winery with Dominique Lafon). These are lovely wines with a distinctive, nicely poised, lean house style. She doesn't over extract. 'You'll kill the beauty of Pinot by over-extracting it.' She's good friends with Benjamin Leroux, who has helped her get fruit. But the price of grapes has gone up 40% since she started. What has been hard is for a domaine in the last years, to do all that work and then have no fruit at the end. But (for example) in Nuits where they haven’t had problems the prices have anyway gone up and up, and up… Fixed price contracts are exactly that, the same prices as the last years – everyone is hoping the the main contract pricing will come down of-course – we are all waiting for that! Actually I’ve more cuvees coming in 2017, with the help of returning wines and another from Beaujolais – a Chénas.
