Description
Region: Beaujolais, France
Appellation: Beaujolais Lantignie
Type/Style: Red Wine
Grapes: Gamay
From the innovative négociant-producer Bret Brothers / La Soufrandière, this “Glou des Bret” is a distinct take on Gamay from the Lantignié village in Beaujolais. The vines grow on pink granite and blue sandstone soils at ~310 m altitude. The cuvée is made with ~50 % whole clusters in fermentation, reflecting the domaine’s “Zen” philosophy of purity, minimal intervention, and terroir-driven expression.
Tasting Notes
On the nose: vibrant red cherry, raspberry, a touch of licorice and forest floor undergrowth. The bouquet is fresh, clean, and delightfully lifted.
On the palate: juicy, lively fruit with bright acidity, sleek tannins, and a silky texture. The wine maintains a purity and drinkability that make it very versatile. It shows finesse, not over-extraction.
Finish: medium-plus, with red fruit hanging on, a whisper of spice, and energetic lift.
Why It’s Special
-
The soils (pink granite / blue sandstone) give structure and minerality uncommon in everyday Beaujolais.
-
The use of whole clusters and the “Zen” approach maintain vibrancy, transparency, and freshness.
-
Though in a relatively small parcel (0.7 ha), the wine offers serious drinkability with subtle complexity—excellent value for a terroir-driven Gamay.
Food Pairing & Serving
Serve slightly chilled (13–15 °C / 55–59 °F). This wine is a fantastic match for charcuterie, roasted chicken, pork, mushrooms, lighter stews, and aged cheeses. It’s especially good when you want red wine that refreshes rather than overwhelms.
