Louis Billard Gevrey Chambertin 2023
Tasting Notes
This Gevrey opens with deep red and dark berry tones — black raspberry, wild cherry, and a touch of blackberry — layered with notes of violet, cedar, and a hint of warm spice. The palate has more presence than the Volnay: firmer tannins, a bit more muscle, but still lifted and composed. The fruit is pure and vivid, framed by a mineral line and a savory, slightly smoky finish. It’s structured, but never heavy — classic Gevrey with clarity and definition.
Why It’s Special
-
It delivers the signature Gevrey profile — darker fruit and more structure — without sacrificing finesse.
-
Louis Billard’s organic farming and gentle extraction keep the wine fresh and transparent rather than brooding or thick.
-
The 2023 vintage lends brightness and immediacy to the fruit, making this both delicious now and suitable for cellaring 6–10+ years.
-
Ideal for customers who want Burgundy with a bit more depth and gravitas, but still value elegance over power.
-
It is an outstanding value in a village where pricing can easily run much higher for far less charm.
About the Producer
Domaine Louis Billard is a small, detail-driven estate working organically across the Hautes-Côtes and the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Vineyard work is the focus: careful pruning, thoughtful canopy management, no synthetic inputs, and hand harvesting. In the cellar, the approach remains low-intervention — native yeasts, gentle extraction, older barrels for élevage — allowing each village to speak in its own voice. The Gevrey-Chambertin 2023 captures that philosophy perfectly: structured but graceful, expressive without artifice, deeply rooted in place.
