Young Syrah can be challenging. It can be tightly wound, with dark fruit, spice, and savory notes competing for attention. When we first encountered this wine, the nose was very reductive, marked by smoke and tar, and it felt almost overwhelming. 

Today, those once-dominant characteristics have moved to the edges, offering a gorgeous dark contrast to the wine’s prettier characteristics. The smoky, savory qualities are now beautifully integrated, adding depth instead of intensity. Floral tones have emerged, the tannins have softened, and the wine has balance and poise that simply wasn't there in its youth. It's a wonderful reminder of why Syrah rewards patience.
