Domaine de Mandelot Hautes-Côtes-du-Beaune Rouge “Croix Simone” 2023
Tasting Notes
Deep garnet in the glass, this 2023 opens with concentrated black cherry, mulberry and dark berry skin, layered with subtle forest-floor spice and a graphite-tinged mineral edge. The palate is plush yet refined: supple tannins, vivid fruit, lifted floral notes of violet and wild bramble, and a long, energetic finish that tightens around a cool limestone core. Both expressive now and clearly built for graceful evolution.
Why It’s Special
-
Crafted from 40- to 80-year-old vines in the elevated hillsides of the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, giving depth and seriousness rarely encountered in this appellation.
-
100% whole-cluster fermentation, minimal new oak and zero unnecessary intervention — a pure, terroir-first Burgundy.
-
The cuvée is a relatively new release for the domaine and already reads like a flagship wine: concentrated, elegant, and surprisingly complex.
-
Ideal for Burgundy lovers who want pedigree, old vines and craftsmanship without paying Premier Cru pricing — a true insider’s bottle.
About the Producer
Domaine de Mandelot is led by François Grangé, a vineyard-focused winemaker who spent years managing vines before establishing his own domaine. Based high in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, he works with old-vine parcels farmed organically and often ploughed by horse. In the cellar the approach is minimal: native yeasts, whole-cluster fermentation, low sulphur and no fining or filtration. His wines are precise, soulful and deeply expressive of their hillside terroir — “Croix Simone” is a standout example.
