Domaine du Mandelot Bourgogne Aligoté 2023
Tasting Notes
Pale straw-gold with the lightest green reflection, this 2023 Aligoté opens with bright green apple, lemon zest and delicate white-flower blossom. On the palate it shows lively, nervy acidity, a lean mid-palate with hints of chalk and wet stone, and a clean, lightly saline finish that invites another sip.
Why It’s Special
-
From two plots of older-vine Aligoté (around 60 years) on clay-rich soils — rare depth for the appellation and a serious expression of Aligoté’s potential.
-
Made by a young estate committed to organic, low-intervention practices: horse-worked soils, very slow pressing, small oak vessels for texture, and minimal added sulphur — all yielding a white that feels elevated rather than “just house white.”
-
For your boutique clientele this offers Burgundy pedigree at a regional appellation price: a wines that shows terroir, character and sophistication without requiring a huge investment.
-
Versatile for food and approachable now, yet structured enough to hold for 2-4 years if one wants to cellar.
About the Producer
Domaine de Mandelot is the project of winemaker François Grangé, based in the village of Mandelot in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune. After years farming vineyards for others, he launched his own domaine, converted the vineyards to organic and works with horse-labour, cover crops and minimal intervention. His aim: allow the vineyard to speak, the grape to show its lineage, and the vintage to shine without heavy manipulation. This Aligoté 2023 exemplifies that ethos — fresh, pure, earnest and quietly refined.
