This DO is located on the northeastern part of the island. There is a great deal of history here: this was the first DO established on the island in 1992. The largest of the five growing regions on the island, it is known for more humidity with milder temperatures.
Vines from 3 parcels of centenarian vines in the La Coruja area, ranging from 350-650m above sea level. Sandy clay soils over red basalt bedrock. Partial carbonic maceration, as is traditional in this area. Aging in neutral French oak for ~8 months.
