Grenache has quietly existed on this side of Etna since the mid-1800s — first brought over from France during the Duchy of Nelson, when the town of Maletto was part of that estate. Here, it found its place among the volcano’s lava-rich soils and, over time, intertwined with the native vines that surrounded it.

The 2023 Jungimmune draws mainly from these old Grenache plantings, harvested alongside centenarian vines of Nerello Mascalese, Tinto Nero, and a few mystery grapes that still defy identification — the kind of mixed old vineyards that make Etna so compelling.

The fruit is hand-harvested, crushed gently, and left to macerate for about 25 days before a light press and aging for twelve months in a combination of steel, cement, and glass demijohns. The result is a wine that feels lifted and volcanic, with Grenache’s warmth translated through Etna’s ash and altitude — a fascinating intersection of history, place, and intuition.
