Max Kilburg has quickly become one of the Mosel's most exciting young winemakers. After working with Julian Haart, he returned to his family's historic Geierslay estate in Wintrich as its 20th-generation steward, while gradually assembling tiny parcels in some of the region's most celebrated vineyards, including Ohligsberg and Goldtröpfchen. Today, he farms less than two hectares, crafting Rieslings that are remarkably transparent: every vineyard has its own unmistakable personality.
Named for both the family's estate and the vineyard itself, Geierslay is one of the cooler vineyard sites in the area, tucked high into a side valley above Ohligsberg. The cooler conditions bring vibrant acidity and a refreshing herbal, almost juniper-like character that beautifully balances the wine's sweetness, with flavors of green apple, white peach, and citrus.
