Stefano Occhetti Roero Riserva 2021
Tasting Notes
In the glass this 2021 shows a bright garnet hue with subtle orange rim highlights. The nose opens with wild raspberry, cherry kernel and floral hints of wild rose petals layered with a fine touch of tar, cocoa-powder tannin character and gentle spice. On the palate it’s medium-to-full-bodied yet elegant — vivid red fruit, a minerally lift, smooth but firm tannins, and a long finish that offers both energy and refinement.
Why It’s Special
-
Made from old-vine 100% Nebbiolo on sandy/limestone soils in the Roero region of Piedmont, this is a Riserva level wine from a rising star producer—so you’re getting serious terroir, age-worthy structure and story.
-
Crafted by Stefano Occhetti with organic or low-intervention practices, spontaneous fermentation and extended ageing — the result is a Nebbiolo that balances tradition and modern expression.
-
“Italian collector piece” and “drinkable now with cellaring upside”. Elegant, distinctive and great story-value.
-
Pairs beautifully with richer foods thanks to its balance: think slow-roasted game, mushroom ragù, aged cheeses, or simply enjoyed by the fire.
About the Producer
Stefano Occhetti is a young winemaker based in Monteu Roero (Piedmont), who returned to his family’s vineyards, converted them to organic farming and began producing his own label around 2019. The estate works with old-vine parcels, sandy soils, hand-harvest, native yeasts and minimal cellar intervention. The 2021 Roero Riserva is his statement wine — showing what Nebbiolo from Roero can achieve when given time, site, and care.
