Yann Bertrand Saint Amour Les Bambins 2023 is biodynamic & certified organic. From the single vineyard ‘La Côte de Besset,’ 40 and 70 year-old bush-trained vines. The blue stones from mica schist and sandstone scree in this parcel lend this particular bottle a robust and spicy dimension. A charming wine, more of the huntsman side of Gamay. In 2023, Yann is particularly happy with this wine, with 17 days of maceration total, rather long for this domaine. It began with a strict carbonic fermentation, but Yann chose to punch down by the end as fermentations started. This was because he wanted the grapes to express even more of their mica-schist soil character, given they had reached maturities with which he was very impressed. Aging 100% in old barrels that had previously contained Pinot Noir, Gamay, and Chardonnay. Unfined, unfiltered, no SO2 added.
